Q: We are told that the British Government has decided to stop sending the Sats copies at the same time it was sent to schools in England. We were also told that our tests would not be marked in England, and that this decision would be applied to all International Schools outside the UK. Is that a fact? Is that change going to be applied starting from the current academic year 2005/2006?

Q: What happens if my child misses a test?

A: In KS1, children who are absent on the day when a test takes place are given another opportunity to take the test. For KS2/3, children who miss a test are recorded as absent and are not given a test level in that subject. They will still receive a teacher assessment.

A: English, maths and science
Q: What will the tests cover?
A: 7-year-olds - Reading, writing(including handwriting), spelling,maths.
11-year-olds - Reading, writing(including handwriting), spelling and maths, mental arithmetic and science.
14-year-olds - English (including reading, writing and studying a Shakespeare play), mathematics, mental arithmetic and science are tested. Teacher assessments are made in English, mathematics, science, history, geography, a modern foreign language, design and technology, information technology, art, music and physical education.
Q: When are the tests?
A: 7-year-olds - The tests are set in May but you are not told when.
11-year-olds - The tests are set in the midddle of May and your child will be given a timetable for the tests at the beginning of May.
Q: Who marks the SATS tests?
A: For KS1 the tests are marked by the class teacher, though some are sent away to be checked by the local authority. For KS2 and KS3 the tests are sent away to be independently marked by other teachers who have no connection with your child’s school.
