Techniques for Short Writing

You will have 25 minutes for this task.

Spend 5 minutes on planning and 15 on the actual test.

This test is much like the long writing task but a shorter version. You will not be marked on your handwriting for this test, however punctuation is still important. You will need to include the following in your writing:

 
Grammar: Paragraphs, Full stops, Capital letters, Exclamation marks, Question marks…

A variety of complex sentences and short sentences.

Make sure the story makes sense.

A definite beginning, middle and end to the text.

Ask yourself these questions:

• Does my writing keep the reader hooked and interested throughout?
• Have I used devices such as similes and metaphors?
• Have I used the correct punctuation?
• Do I have a clear beginning, middle and end?
